Nuovi Drivers ATI (proprietari) per Linux! fglrx-8.22.5

ATI Linux DriversNuova versione per i drivers proprietari di ATI per i sistemi Linux (datata 08-02-2006).

Questa nuova versione dei fglrx (la 8.22.5) non contiene grandi novità in termini di nuove funzioni, ma supporta il “nuovo” kernel 2.6.15 e viene corretto un problema col file di configurazione di X.org/Xfree (se la sezione dedicata alle impostazioni del driver superava le 22 righe si aveva un crash del server grafico); rimangono tuttavia alcuni problemi con moduli di Xorg 6.8.2 esterni (più aggiornati), con il TV out e con server grafici multipli…

Ad ogni modo altre informazioni sulla release le trovate nelle release notes ufficiali

Per il download dell’installer (da cui è possibile anche ricavare pacchetti deb, rpm & co…) cliccate qui mentre per dei rpm ed ulteriori informazioni fate riferimento a questa pagina.

Per l’installazione fate riferimento all’HOW-TO ufficiale e soprattutto al wiki non ufficiale, che è sicuramente di maggiore aiuto per gli utenti visto che ci potete trovare tutte le guide passo-passo per generare pacchetti da installare nelle varie distribuzioni.

Per Ubuntu / Kubuntu e figli :D, invece il driver è stato già «pacchettizzato» (seppur in forma non ufficiale) e quindi se non vi va di crearvi i pacchetto .deb seguendo questa guida del wiki oppure questo thread del forum di ubuntu potete semplicemente mettere la mia lista dei repository ubuntu (o se non volete metterla tutta vi basta il repository di Seveas) e dare i soliti comandi per l’upgrade: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade.

Eventualmente potete anche scaricare ed installare a parte i pacchett dai link seguenti:

C’è comunque da ricordare che i drivers ATI per il pinguino oltre a non essere open-source non reggono il confronto non solo con i drivers ATI per windows (catalyst), ma neanche con quelli Nvidia per Linux. È stata quindi promossa una petizione per chiedere ad ATI di “liberalizzare” lo sviluppo aprendo il codice e promuovendo uno studio maggiore anche sul pinguino.
Vi prego quindi di partecipare a questa iniziativa firmando questa petizione.

  • Ho una ubuntu installata, posso utilizzare i pacchetti da te citati anche su un portatile

    a 64bit con ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700?

    In precedenza non sono mai riuscito a far funzionare i driver ATI e ho sempre usato quelli della distribuzione.

  • Io nel notebook ho la stessa identica scheda video e li uso correttamente, però, per la distro a 64bit non puoi usare quei drivers visto che sono compilati per pc a 32bit…

    Ho trovato dei modi per usarli sui pc a 64 bit: Ubuntu Forums. Prova!:) 

    Secondo me, cmq, non è ancora conveniente usare distro per processori a 64 bit, va bene che sono più ottimizzate, però ancora si trovano male alcuni pacchetti più "famosi"…

    mi puoi spiegare passo passo come installare i driver?

    mi basta che installo tutti quei pacchetti? dopo aver installato tutti quei pacchetti che comandi devo dare?

    ci sono così tante giude per ati che non ci capisco niente….mi fai questo enorme favore?

  • Se non hai mai installato i drivers, per seguire una procedura più manuale (senza utilizzare il pratico tool EasyUbuntu) fai i passi seguenti:

    sudo apt-get install gcc-3.4 module-assistant build-essential fakeroot dh-make debconf libstdc++5 gcc-3.3-base

    Dunque scarica i pacchetti .deb linkati sopra, vai nella directory in cui si trovano e fai:

    sudo dpkg -i xorg-driver-fglrx_*.deb fglrx-kernel-source_*.deb fglrx-control_*.deb
    sudo apt-get install -f
    (da fare per correggere eventuali dipendenze)
    sudo rm /usr/src/fglrx-kernel*.deb
    sudo module-assistant prepare
    sudo module-assistant update
    sudo module-assistant a-i fglrx

    Quindi modifica le impostazioni di Xorg:

    – Manualmente editando /etc/X11/xorg.conf (sostituendo "ati" con "fglrx")
    – Automaticamente avviando la configurazione con:

    sudo aticonfig –initial

    Riavvia X con Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (o riavvia KDE/GNOME se vuoi salvare la sessione) e per vedere se è andato tutto ok fai

    fglrxinfo 

    Dovresti avere un output tipo:

    display: :0.0  screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
    OpenGL renderer string: MOBILITY RADEON 9700 Generic
    OpenGL version string: 2.0.5582 (8.21.7)

  • Purtroppo questi drivers sono proprietari e quindi non sono disponibili i sorgenti, quindi non puoi compilarti la versione per il tuo pc.

    Sfortunatamente, però, non puoi neanche installare i fglrx complilati da ATi per architetture ppc, perché semplicemente non esistono per adesso 🙁

  • Sempre io. Ho installato tutto sotto 32 bit, ma non riesco a fare andare l’acceleratore grafico. Quando lancio fglrxinfo esce

  • Mh… Ho avuto anche io problemi del genere in passato. 🙁
    Alla fine c’erano pacchetti che davano noia relativi al mesa; oppure le estensioni di kde per le ombre…

    Inoltre, i moduli flgrx sono caricati (lo vedi con lsmod ed eventuale grep ;))?
